Christmas Dinner & NYC Suggestions Please :)

Well the SC & I are off for a very yankee christmas :) I, for one, cannot wait to get back to my northeastern roots, see my family, & indulge for one more week before new years resolutions kick in!
However, I need some help from all of my lovely readers. We would like to add some southern flair to our Christmas dinner. Please make suggestions on side dishes, appetizers or desserts that have a southern quality to them (but have ingredients you can find up north!)
Also, we will have the chance to spend a day in NYC! I’ve been a number of times but am hoping to hit up some great “foodie” places. Have any suggestions?
Thanks bunches. I’m signing off for about a week. I’m sure I’ll be back with many recipes, meal recaps & stories of our 13 hour + road trip!
Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year!
Love,
the Nashville Nosher ;)

Well, I've already suggested my grandma's corn pudding recipe, so you have that link in case you want to use it. (I promise you won't be disappointed!)

As for NYC recs, check out Momofoku Ssam Bar for lunch and you can never go wrong with Gramercy Tavern for dinner!

Boiled custard is a must at our family Christmas (at least on my side of the family)! This year I am making Boiled Custard Pie. Ingredients: 1 c sugar, 1/4 c all purpose flour, 2 c boiled custard (I use Purity), 3 beaten eggs, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/4 c unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly, ground nutmeg, 1 – 9in unbaked pie crust
Mix the sugar and flour together. Beat in the boiled custard, eggs, and vanilla to make a smooth mixture. Stir in the butter. Pour into the prepared pie crust. Sprinkle lightly with nutmeg. Bake @ 350 for 30-40 min. or until set. Yummy! Have fun in NYC – looking forward to hear about your trip and some new recipes!

You might like this cake. It blew me away. You should be able to find all the ingredients I think. A touch of southern with the pecans…and it's sweetness! lol

For an appetizer, try this cheeseball. It always gets rave reviews when I bring it to parties. http://www.sohowsittaste.com/2010/04/are-you-sure-thats-going-to-taste-good.html

Have fun on your trip! I'm jealous!
